Submerged Arc Micro Welding

The term micro welding refers to small diameter welding wires used in the Submerged Arc welding process.

While Submerged Arc welding is a process that employs large diameter welding wires eg, 3 & 4mm wound on a spool and used in conjunction with a shielding flux, micro welding is similar but makes use of wire sizes 0.8 to 1.6mm.

The benefits of this form of submerged arc welding is that due to the low heat input, a direct result of the small diameter welding wire, small shaft diameters can be successfully welded.

Owing to the low Volt and Amp settings which minimizes the kj, low levels of distortion are guaranteed and minimal micro structural changes occur.

A testimony borne out by industry to the indispensability of micro welding lies in the fact that extremely critical components are welded with this process eg. turbines, fan shafts, crankshafts and eccentric shafts.

Weld repairs are done either to an approved repair procedure (qualified to ASME IX) of which we have 74, or we have one qualified that simulates the component in service.  This ensures that the repair meets international norms and standards and that the component will be fit for service.  Components are also repaired to meet certain criteria, eg. wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness or simply analogous overlays.
